Museums, movies, plays, concerts, and more fill the calendar in the Greater Huntington Area. Visitors and residents have a variety of entertainment events to choose from each week.
For a city of about 50,000 residents, Huntington is blessed with many museums offering a wide selection of exhibits. The nationally accredited Huntington Museum of Art is a fine arts museum with a world-class collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. HMA offers permanent exhibits of its collection in addition to exciting traveling exhibitions. Heritage Farm Museum & Village gives visitors a glimpse into the past and spotlights the ingenuity and work ethic of early Appalachians. The Museum of Radio and Technology attracts visitors from a wide area, who leave to spread the word about the quality of the exhibits there. The Touma Medical Museum in downtown Huntington offers an interesting look at medical equipment from days gone by. Marshall University’s Birke Art Gallery puts faculty, students, and visiting artists in the spotlight. And Benjy’s Harley Davidson Motorcycle Museum is a fun and informative place to visit.
Pullman Square is downtown Huntington’s newest gathering spot. The entertainment, dining, and shopping complex gives visitors many opportunities to enjoy a day or evening together. World-class comedians make their way to Huntington via the Funny Bone Comedy Club at Pullman Square.
There is nothing like a movie to escape your worries and Greater Huntington offers many places to do just that. Marquee Cinemas at Pullman Square offers stadium seating and a beautiful setting to see the latest releases. Cinema Theatre offers a chance to see recent movies at a discounted price. Huntington Mall Cinema Six gives shoppers a chance to take a break from shopping at West Virginia’s largest mall to see the latest film.
The Marshall Artists Series brings world-class productions and artists to Huntington to perform at the beautiful Keith-Albee Theatre. If you’re into musical drama, Huntington Outdoor Theatre offers wonderfully directed and acted productions each summer under the stars at the Ritter Park Amphitheatre. Marshall University Theatre offers classic plays in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse and cutting edge works in an experimental theatre setting. Many other local groups present productions as well often at the theater in the Renaissance, which occupies the former Huntington High School.
The Big Sandy Superstore Arena in downtown Huntington brings music to downtown Huntington, such as the recent American Idols Tour concert. Country and rock concerts are also popular as are children’s programs such as Barney and Sesame Street Live. Classical music is presented by the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, which also offers a popular Picnic with the Pops series each summer.
Huntington even has its own amusement park. Camden Park has been putting smiles on the faces of young and old for decades. Its Haunted House ride and wooden roller coaster known as The Big Dipper are popular attractions.
As you can see, when it comes to entertainment, Huntington has it covered.
