Organizations & Resources for Seniors

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the interests of mature Americans providing services through a network of local chapters and experienced volunteers. AARP dedicated to informing members and the public on issues important to this age group; advocating on legislative, consumer and legal issues; promoting community service; and offering a wide range of special products and services to members.


Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) is a community-based organization providing advocacy, networking, and resources to persons with disabilities and their families. The centers are a place where people with disabilities are free to meet, share, learn and plan lives of greater independence and self reliance.


The West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services is a cabinet-level agency within State Government and acts as the lead entity for programs serving older West Virginians. A Commissioner appointed by the Governor is the chief administrative officer and oversees all program and fiscal operations. In addition to agency staff members, the Bureau consists of a 15-member Advisory Council on Aging. The important programs and services offered through the Bureau of Senior Services are all described here on this web site.


WVSeniors.org is a website for senior citizens in West Virginia that features community, news, events and information on anything related to senior services and aging. You can search for senior services throughout the state; ask experts questions about geriatric medicine, pharmacy, social services, and more; check a calendar of senior events statewide; access a library of information on aging; read and post discussions about topics that interest you; read senior-related news, articles and columns; visit the growing list of links to online resources for seniors, join groups and talk with others that have interests in similar areas.


West Virginia Senior Legal Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free civil legal services and counsel to senior West Virginians age 60 and older. Its focus is on economically or socially disadvantaged, disabled, and rural seniors. They work to secure justice for, and to protect the legal rights of, these needy people; to employ attorneys to assist in furthering the purposes of the organization; to engage the private bar in assisting them to further these purposes; and to be a significant elderlaw resource for all of West Virginia.


The Huntington West Virginia Housing Authority provides programs and services to individuals and families that are interested in our affordable housing programs. Among the services they offer are public housing communities, rental subsidy programs, homeownership counseling, resident support services, senior services, youth programs, and others.


Cabell County Community Services Organization, Inc provides such services as health care services; meals to the homebound, at-risk, and frail elderly; housekeeping, and personal care to nursing home eligible clients under the supervision of a registered nurse; and other services to help elderly remain independent in their homes.


The Wayne County Community Service Organization (WCCSO) was incorporated in 1983. WCCSO acts as a community focal point for the coordination of many programs and services benefiting those in need in Wayne County.

The Harvest Club -The First State Bank The Harvest Club is a local seniors travel and social club sponsored by The First State Bank. The Harvest Club offers trips, actvities, special events and a social outlet for the Huntignton/Barboursville areas' active senior community.
